CBD Oil: Contraindications and What You Should Consider

One of the star products made from cannabidiol is CBD oil due to its positive effects on the skin and the body.

If you want to know more, pay attention to today's article where we explain:

  • What this oil is and how it is extracted.
  • What are the contraindications of CBD oil and also its positive effects.
  • The different ways this product can be applied.

Ready to learn all the details about CBD oil? Let's go.

➡️ What is CBD oil and how is it extracted from cannabis?

CBD oil is a product created from cannabidiol (or CBD, hence the name of this oil), one of the main active compounds in cannabis.

This substance does not cause psychoactive effects (i.e., it does not "get you high") nor does it cause addiction. Furthermore, it contains a multitude of properties (in this post we explain what CBD is in detail). This is completely opposite to THC (another substance found in cannabis that does cause psychotropic effects and addiction).

It is important to differentiate these two active compounds, as THC (and anything containing this substance) is prohibited in our country and in much of the world, whereas CBD is completely legal.

✅ How is CBD oil extracted?

CBD is a substance found in the resinous flower of cannabis. To extract it and turn it into oil, there are 3 different methods:

  1. Extraction with another oil: this is the simplest method, which is why it is popular among those who decide to make homemade CBD oil. In a container (it can be a pot), CBD buds are mixed with olive oil and heated to 100ºC for 60 minutes. The olive oil evaporates, leaving a highly concentrated CBD oil.
  2. Extraction with liquid solvent: this is usually done with ethanol (ethyl alcohol) so that when it boils with the buds, the natural properties of CBD are extracted. After boiling, the solution is filtered, leaving a CBD-rich oil.
  3. CO2 extraction: this is the most common method in the cosmetics and pharmaceutical sectors. When CO2 reaches critical temperature and pressure, it acquires a state halfway between liquid and gas, which allows the maximum amount of cannabidiol properties to be extracted. When it returns to a completely liquid state, the result is CBD oil.

In this way, we obtain a product in which all the natural properties of CBD are concentrated, such as its analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and restorative effects.

➡️ CBD Oil: Contraindications and positive effects

As we have seen, CBD oil contains all the natural properties and positive effects of cannabidiol.

However, as with any other legal substance, there are certain contraindications that are better to be aware of. We are not talking about highly harmful negative health effects, not at all. But it is good to keep them in mind.

Therefore, below, we explain the most common contraindications of CBD oil.

✅ CBD oil contraindications: what you should consider

First of all, it is important to note that these adverse effects rarely occur and are mainly due to excessive consumption.

As with other medicinal herbs or plants (from chamomile to aloe vera, rosemary, etc.), excessive use can cause discomfort such as drowsiness, diarrhea, dizziness, and the sensation of dry mouth. Or in the case of applying a large amount to the skin for a long time, the sensation of itching.

To prevent this from happening, it is sufficient to take a reasonable dose, or reduce it somewhat if we usually consume large quantities.

➡️ How is CBD oil applied? Different uses of this product

The most common ways to use CBD oil are:

  • Applying it directly to the skin: rubbing CBD oil into the skin produces that restorative effect we mentioned, in addition to making it look more beautiful and hydrated. Also, by massaging a painful area with this oil, you will also be able to relieve the pain.
  • A few drops on the scalp: This increases hair strength, nourishing it and preventing hair loss.
  • Ingested: A good way to take CBD oil is by adding a splash to your infusions. Consuming it this way will have the same positive effects plus the elimination of nausea and increased appetite.
